Melanated to the Soles
What happens when you mix sneakers and education?
This past year, HomeWorks Trenton (with the support of Grounds For Sculpture) participated in Teach For America’s The Reinvention Lab and NinetyNine Products' "The Future of Learning Sneaker Competition!" We are excited to announce that we won, and 1200 pairs of shoes are being produced and sold!
Our 2 scholar peer leaders Darae and Nkosazana, as well as our staff, came together to create and pitch the design of the sneaker. The colors reflect the diverse skin tones of Black and Brown women. We’re grounded in our belief that the Future of Learning is inclusivity, specifically where our Black and Brown girls are celebrated and affirmed in their identities and can take ownership of their own learning.

About the Competition
Watch the business pitch our scholars and staff presented that earned us first place!
The #FutureOfLearningChallenge was created by the Reinvention Lab at Teach For America, a space for examining the next radical leaps in the future of learning, and NinetyNine Products, an innovative, equity-focused sneaker design company.
Fourteen education organizations from across the country competed in the challenge. The student designers and educational organizations involved received storytelling coaching and guidance, and HomeWorks Trenton was one of four finalists that had the opportunity to pitch their designs to a panel of judges before the winner was selected.

Celebrity Partnerships
We're teaming up with professional basketball player and Trenton native La'Keisha Sutton, as well as Emmy-nominated actress Yvonne Orji to help promote the powerful diversity of interests, cultures, and experiences that exist within our communities.
