Getting paid for returning bottles and cans, how do you pick a place?

I have a few bags of bottles and cans piling up at home and I want to actually return them instead of tossing everything out. Never done this before, so I am not sure what matters when picking a spot. What should I check before going somewhere?

I looked into this a while back because I had the same pile sitting in the garage. First thing I would check is whether the place is clear about how the CRV deposit actually works, since eligible beverage containers carry that value and you redeem it after purchase rather than getting some flat rate. The refund ends up depending on size, material, weight, eligibility and whatever rates are posted that day, so if a place is vague about any of that I would treat it as a warning sign. When I was comparing options in the Citrus Heights area I ended up reading through recycling bottles for money mostly to understand the process before showing up. The practical part is not complicated. Collect what is eligible, keep labels visible, bring it in and get paid after processing. Aluminum, plastic and glass CRV containers are usually all accepted. Some places run small bonuses on certain days, which is fine but not a reason to choose one over another on its own. I would still say compare a couple of spots and go with the one that explains its terms and rates most clearly.
